About
Since 1997, I have been working full time as a fine art professional of oil painting in the plein air genre. Taking my easel and paints to the outdoors, setting up and painting what I see. My style has evolved from a more rendering approach to painting with less detail and more brush stroke. Traveling to other cities, states and countries has "broadened my horizon." Different light, landscapes, architecture and culture bring new excitement to my work.
Exhibiting in galleries, museums and art clubs have played a important role in my career. Currently my work can be found at the Emerald C Gallery located in Coronado, California. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego located in La Jolla, California, owns a large painting titled, "Cabrillo Bridge."
I have also enjoyed competing in plein air painting competitions through out the United States and Europe. Three highlights include (1) in Ireland at Europe's largest competition of this kind in Wexford. My painting titled "Enniscorthy" was given the "Runner up" (2nd place) award; and (2) when the prestigious Salmungundi Art Club in New York City honored my "Bow Bridge" painting with the Best Plein Air Painting in their annual nonmembers exhibit; and (3) the Carmel Art Festival awarded my " Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey" painting with the title Best Oil/Acrylic Painting in its annual plein air painting festival.
People from all walks of life have enjoyed collecting my paintings. One public figure is Senator Mitt Romney whose wife purchased two pieces. Then many private collectors have taken home multiple paintings and some have collected as many as fifteen. I do enjoy commissions. My favorite experience in this regard is flying to New York city to paint a residence that I had never seen and having three hours in which to complete this painting. One day, three hours! Thankfully all went well, the commissioner was pleased, I was paid, left the painting with his neighbor and flew home that same night.
As my career continues, I am prepared to paint under any circumstance and will travel!
